As a Communication Studies minor, I took an Oral Interpretation class, where we were often asked to re-enact popular speeches or scenes from movies, while putting in our own interpretation spin on them. For one assignment in particular, I took the lyrics of a song by Josh Garrels, called Sisu, and I transformed it into a spoken word style poem. After I finished and took a look at my evaluation sheet, I saw that my teacher put a special note on the top of the paper. She said, "Ashley, you put the wind in peoples sails." Me? I was deeply moved by these words. So deeply in fact, that they are now my life mission. Where people are lost at sea, I want to help bring words of life and truth, awakening people to see who God is and blowing them in the right direction. I want to partner with God for the healing of the world in courage and boldness. And I believe that I can accomplish this, not only in my church vocational ministry, but in my life ministry of being a wife and being a mom. I feel that part of my mission entails both adopting and having my own children. I want to be multicultural within my own family.

Another part of my life mission consists of worship leading through singing (and playing guitar occasionally). Throughout the years, I have sang in many states and with many types of people. And through it all, I can say that I feel most happy and most myself when I sing. Whether it is through confession, adoration, or supplication, leading people through songs is a lifelong goal and dream of mine. There is something about music that articulates the depth of the soul in ways that speaking just cannot. It is an expression of the soul. My eyes have been opened through music and my heart changed by the truth of a song lyric. And I am amazed at how the Lord has used me to touch others.
